Blackwater Lodge Newsletter - July 28, 2011

Despite low water conditions we caught fish every day in the last week except for the 25th., when there was actually nobody out fishing at all!

27 grilse & salmon to 14.3lb. have been caught in the last 7 days, including 3 double figure fish & 4 First Ever Salmon.

The river has fined off & is in perfect order for the fly & also the prawn. The clarity is now about 5 feet.

The news is that the main grilse run has appeared on the West coast, so it should make it's way round to us very soon.

Week from July 21-27th.

July 21:  5 grilse to 6.4lb including three First Ever Salmon 
for Jake & Jesslyn Hiltz (USA) and Marino Bellini (Italy).

Second Best Day of Season!
July 22: 9 fish to 11.5lb, including a First Ever Salmon for 7 year old Tommy Quinlivan.
July 23:  3 grilse caught on the lower river.
July 24:  4 grilse & one almost sea-liced 13 pounder released.  All apart from 1 grilse from the upper river.
July 26:  The 13lb. fish released on the upper river on the 24th.
July 26: Tim Quinlivan caught a superb almost sea-liced fish of 14.3lb on spun prawn - his first ever with this method.
July 27:  2 grilse caught on the lower river.
