FISHING REPORTS - September 15, 2016

LAKES

Babine Lake is closed for Sockeye. Francois Lake has some nice Rainbows that get pretty big and make for great dinners! Check out some of the smaller lakes like Dennis Lake, Round Lake, Helen Lake, Ross Lake, etc. for some great trout fishing before winter hits. The Stellako River is a world class trout fishing river and is an excellent alternative if our rivers are unfishable.

SALTWATER

Halibut and crabbing has been pretty good. Coho fishing is a bit tougher but most people have been fishing deeper than normal and doing well.

BABINE RIVER

River is back in shape and Steelheading has been average. Some big, big fish caught.

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

Water is a bit high but clarity is great. Trout Creek, Chicken Creek, and Telkwa have been doing quite well for Coho. Steelheading has been a bit tougher but almost 9000 have passed through Moricetown, so they are in the river, we just need to catch them!

KISPIOX

Water is high and slightly coloured but definitely fishable. Coho fishing has been good-they are big this year, but many are already coloured. Steelheading was fairly good earlier in the week but has slowed down a bit. Rained pretty hard on Thursday and conditions could change.

KITIMAT

Coho fishing has been doing very well. River clarity is great and when it does blow out, it cleans up within 24hours.

SKEENA

River has dropped a bit and cleared but lots of rain forecasted for Friday could change things. Sockeye fishing is closed. Steelhead and Coho fishing has been decent. Copper is clean and clear as of Thursday.

Water is a bit high but clarity is great. Trout Creek, Chicken Creek, and Telkwa have been doing quite well for Coho. Steelheading has been tough for most people this week. A few really big fish caught!

FISHING REPORTS - September 8, 2016

LAKES

Fall is a great time to fish the lakes as the fish will be plumping up for the cold winter. Babine Lake is open till the 15th for Sockeye and people are still doing decent and most of the fish are still in shape.

SALTWATER

Douglas Channel- Fishing has been really hit and miss. Coho are being caught deep- like 100-140 feet down! Not many rock-cod being caught. Halibut has been hit and miss. (all or nothing!) Crabbing is phenomenal.

BABINE RIVER

Fall is here, which means Steelheading on the Babine!

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

At the time of writing the Bulkley below Telkwa has about 2 feet of visibility, and 4 feet above the Telkwa confluence. The water is higher than we would normally see this time of year, which is astonishing, but we needed the water! Coho fishing is still good in the Trout Creek area and in Telkwa. Steelhead are in the system but fishing has been tough. Clarity on the Morice is fine, but again, tough fishing for Steelhead.

KISPIOX

Water is high (again astonishing) and borderline fishable. Coho fishing is still fairly good. Big fish. Steelhead are here but fishing is spotty.

KITIMAT

Rained yesterday and the water has come up but the river is still in good shape. Coho fishing has been good. On the lower river people are fishing with the tide and doing well..

SKEENA

Skeena is high and dirty. Not fishable. Steelhead and Coho are in, Sockeye closes on the 15th.

FISHING REPORTS - September 1, 2016

LAKES

With most of the rivers high and dirty, lakes are a great alternative. Babine Lake is open till the 15th for Sockeye and has been doing decent. Check outgofishbc.com for tips and depth-maps on some of the popular lakes.

SALTWATER

Out of Rupert the Halibut fishing is still going strong but the Salmon market is dropping off drastically as most fish are in the rivers now. Douglas Channel salmon has slowed down in the past week or two as a huge number of Coho have moved into the river. People are still catching Coho farther out of the Channel- and they have been huge!

BABINE RIVER

Sockeye fishing is closed. Upper Babine will be clean and good for Steelheading.

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

Bulkley is high and dirty due to heavy rains. The Morice and upper Bulkley are coloured but in better shape than below the Telkwa. Steelheading has been decent, numbers are good. Coho fishing has been ok. Reminder that the rivers are Classified and Steelhead Stamp mandatory. Black bear still hanging around Trout Creek.

KISPIOX

Water is high and dirty. Steelhead are in though; try fishing close to shore or at the mouths of creeks.

KITIMAT

River has risen but is still in decent shape. Northern Coho are in and fishing has been good!

SKEENA

Water has come up a lot and is dirty. Steelhead and Coho fishing has been pretty good. Sockeye fishing is still open till the 15th. Copper is blown-out as well. Kalum would be the best bet this weekend.

A misty morning on the Bulkley.
