FISHING REPORTS - October 12, 2016

LAKES

Lakes were fishing great this past weekend. Call Lake produced some great Brook Trout.
Please note: as per 2015-2017 fishing regulations on page 57, Region 6 daily quotes: …… and you must release Lake trout from Fraser and Skeena watersheds , Sept. 15 to Nov. 30

SALTWATER

Still halibut being caught by the die-hards out there

BABINE RIVER

River is in excellent shape but fishing has been tougher the last couple days. Be bear aware!

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

The Bulkley and Morice levels and clarity are beautiful! Fishing has slowed down from last week, most likely because of the sudden drop in temperature. Should pick up as the fish become acclimatized.

KISPIOX

Water is great but fishing is slow.

KITIMAT

River is clear and beautiful. Still some fresh fish being caught, but most of the Northern Coho are turning red.

SKEENA

Again water levels and clarity are great, fishing is hit and miss. The Nass watersheds (such as the Tseax) are still producing some beautiful Northerns!

LAKES

Please note: as per 2015-2017 fishing regulations on page 57 Region 6 daily quotes: …… and you must release Lake trout from Fraser and Skeena watersheds , Sept. 15 to Nov. 30  Rainbow Trout fishing can be tremendous at this time of year. Lots of smaller lakes around the Smithers area that are worth fishing. Try Irrigation Lake, Helen Lake, Ross Lake…. Use flies or spinners.

SALTWATER

Ocean fishing pretty much done other than some halibut and crabbing.

BABINE RIVER

Water is high but clear. Fishing has been really good. Lots of fish……

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

The Bulkley is a bit high but in excellent shape otherwise. Fishing for steelhead has been good! Still fish caught on dry flies. Fish hard now - it is supposed to rain hard Saturday….

KISPIOX

Water is high but clear. Fishing has been excellent. Some big, big fish caught this week.

KITIMAT

River is clearing and dropping. Fishing is slowing down but Coho are still being caught.

SKEENA

Water is high but clean. Fishing has been ok. Some fresh, fresh fish caught.

FISHING REPORTS - September 28, 2016

LAKES

Lake fishing can be awesome at this time of year. With warmer afternoons try using a dry fly on some of our smaller lakes in the Smithers area. Round Lake can be a lot of fun. So can Irrigation Lake.

SALTWATER

Ocean fishing is coming to an end with most of the Salmon being in the river and the weather changing. Still some halibut being caught though.

BABINE RIVER

High and dirty except for the top portion which is lake fed. Lots of people fishing a very short stretch….. Fishing has been good on the Babine prior to this epic blow out.

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

Telkwa River is spewing in dirt. Bulkley below the Telkwa is not fishable. The Morice River is out. If we do not get more rain the Morice/Bulkley above the Telkwa River should be fishable by Friday (a little more rain in the forecast Friday…) Steelhead fishing was excellent last week for most people in the Bulkley. More challenging in the Morice.

KISPIOX

Same story. River is high and dirty. Maybe fishable by Friday.

KITIMAT

Water level is high but fishable. The Steelhead are mostly spawned and heading back to the ocean but Chinook fishing is starting. First Chinook was caught last week!

SKEENA

River is pretty high and dirty but has already started to drop and is just starting to clear. Coho fishing has been pretty good when the river is in shape.

FISHING REPORTS - September 22, 2016

LAKES

As the weather cools, fish in lakes begin to put the feed on before winter-makes for great fishing!

SALTWATER

Still some Coho being caught in the Douglas Channel. Halibut and crabbing has still been decent.

BABINE RIVER

Tough fishing this past week but as the river cleared up fishing has improved.

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

River is in excellent shape. With the water settling down the fishing has picked up. Coho are still being caught and there have been some good steelhead caught this past week.
The river is quite busy particularly above the Telkwa. The Morice is also in great shape and fishing well.

KISPIOX

Water is a little high but clarity is good. Fishing has gotten better in the past couple days.

KITIMAT

River is clear but pretty low. The best, most productive fishing has been as the tide comes in, or early in the morning.

SKEENA

River is still a bit high and visibility is not great. Some fish are being caught for sure.
