FISHING REPORTS - September 28, 2016
LAKES
Lake fishing can be awesome at this time of year. With warmer afternoons try using a dry fly on some of our smaller lakes in the Smithers area. Round Lake can be a lot of fun. So can Irrigation Lake.
SALTWATER
Ocean fishing is coming to an end with most of the Salmon being in the river and the weather changing. Still some halibut being caught though.
BABINE RIVER
High and dirty except for the top portion which is lake fed. Lots of people fishing a very short stretch….. Fishing has been good on the Babine prior to this epic blow out.
BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS
Telkwa River is spewing in dirt. Bulkley below the Telkwa is not fishable. The Morice River is out. If we do not get more rain the Morice/Bulkley above the Telkwa River should be fishable by Friday (a little more rain in the forecast Friday…) Steelhead fishing was excellent last week for most people in the Bulkley. More challenging in the Morice.
KISPIOX
Same story. River is high and dirty. Maybe fishable by Friday.
KITIMAT
Water level is high but fishable. The Steelhead are mostly spawned and heading back to the ocean but Chinook fishing is starting. First Chinook was caught last week!
SKEENA
River is pretty high and dirty but has already started to drop and is just starting to clear. Coho fishing has been pretty good when the river is in shape.
FISHING REPORTS - September 22, 2016LAKESAs the weather cools, fish in lakes begin to put the feed on before winter-makes for great fishing! SALTWATERStill some Coho being caught in the Douglas Channel. Halibut and crabbing has still been decent. BABINE RIVERTough fishing this past week but as the river cleared up fishing has improved. BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERSRiver is in excellent shape. With the water settling down the fishing has picked up. Coho are still being caught and there have been some good steelhead caught this past week. KISPIOXWater is a little high but clarity is good. Fishing has gotten better in the past couple days. KITIMATRiver is clear but pretty low. The best, most productive fishing has been as the tide comes in, or early in the morning. SKEENARiver is still a bit high and visibility is not great. Some fish are being caught for sure. |
